Ooma acquired security camera startup Butterfleye in December 2017, custom business communications provider Voxter in March 2018, business communications provider Broadsmart in May 2019 and business communications provider OnSIP in July 2022. That same year, it was a gold winner of the Best of Biz Awards. In 2015, Ooma was named one of the fastest-growing private companies by the San Francisco Business Times and Silicon Valley Business Journal. Ooma worked with West Valley City, Utah, in June 2014 to offer free telephone service to households through a fiber network. ![]() Ooma launched the HD3 handset in December 2017 and the Ooma Telo 4G system with wireless internet connectivity in January 2019. In December 2012, Ooma received the Internet Telephony Product of the Year award for developing the Telo, HD2 handset, and Linx. Ooma also launched Ooma Linx in 2012, which used an AC outlet to connect any phone or fax machine to the Telo base station. The handset includes one-touch voicemail, an intercom, and baby monitoring features. Ooma unveiled its HD2 handset in November 2012. In 2011, it was announced that Ooma's VoIP-In-A-Box was expanding to Canada. Ooma received the gold consumer product of the year award as part of the Best in Biz Awards in 2011. That same year, Ooma was given the TMC Labs Innovation Award for the Ooma Hub and Ooma Scout. In 2009, Ooma was awarded an Internet Telephony product of the year award for developing the Ooma Telo and the Ooma Telo handset. Frame stepped down from his role as CEO in 2009 and was replaced by Eric Stang. PC Magazine awarded Ooma the DigitalLife Best of Show award in the hardware innovator category for the Ooma Hub in 2007. In January 2008, Ooma terminated the use of peer-to-peer technology. The system worked through a "hub" connected to the main phone line and "scouts" connected to other phones. Ooma's initial product was a "VoIP in a box" device that used peer-to-peer VoIP technology to let users make phone calls over other Ooma users' landline services. Ooma was founded by Andrew Frame, who previously worked for Cisco Systems in 2004. Ooma offers communications services including Voice over IP (VoIP) calling for business, home and mobile users. is an American publicly traded telecommunications company based in the Silicon Valley, California area. In all of the cases they had cats that would frequently walk across their desks, so in each case I assume the cat stepped on the button enough times to turn off the lights.Ooma, Inc. I've had many calls and emails where my clients could not understand why the Telo had no lights, but still worked. I just hope the slight ridge around each button of the new style control panel is better at stopping cat paws from activating buttons. So what had not been obvious before, is made even less obvious by the redesign of the Telo 3 and the unfortunate layout of the usage description in the new Quick Reference for it. Even though there is a button that looks like the sun on their device, some don't want to press anything they are unsure of for fear of messing up their phone system. Many are overwhelmed by the change to what very often had been one of the simplest devices in their house, next to the toaster, so those kind of details often are not retained. How to dim the lights has been a common followup question from my clients with the old stye control panel, even after I explained it on installation. The Quick Reference section should really be redesigned to make this important change more obvious. Most everyone knows what a rewind key is and so it's perfectly understandable that they would skip reading the full description to get to the last line. ![]() Not many people are going to read much further beyond the first line which says it's a Rewind Key. So unless you just start pushing buttons on your Telo 3 to see what happens, then you would have to have noticed the last line of the description of the Rewind key in the Quick Reference section of the Quick Start Guide. However the OP said he had Telo 2 (in which I think he means the latest Telo, and it is actually Telo 3) where there is no dedicated button to dim the lights. That is the same as my Telo, the old style. ![]()
